We aim at breeding Golden Retrievers that excel in good health and a friendly temperament. Another main purpose is to breed Goldens which conform to the breed standard. We desire to preserve their unique, natural abilities as "gun-dogs" because this leads to a gentle and obedient dog. How do we achieve these goals? -We study the health of the future pups parents'. With each mating we select Matadors which have a high potential to improve the breed. -We select Matadors so that each new generation will improve upon the past generation. Choosing Matadors, over younger or less proven dogs, is a philosophy we adhere to. -We carefully choose and select which bitches to continue in our breeding program in order to result in the best possible future generations. While we attempt to guide nature, it's important to recognize that it can never be truly forced. -Both parents need to be evaluated on their eye characteristics in order to attempt avoiding unwanted characteristics, such as cataracts and PRA. -Both parents need x-rays of their hips and elbows and be free of hereditary defects. -We prefer both parents to have achieved the exterior composition 'Excellent' as marked by a CAC show. -Finally, we prefer both parents have a gentle temperament. We have adhered to these goals in breeding for the past twenty years. As a result, we have had high success in regards to health, temperament, sound conformation, and talent to hunt. |
